  2. Choose the musicA window asks for the second file. Pick your music, then set its volume, repeat, fade and "Lower it while you speak".

Mix two audio files online

Mixing means playing two sounds at the same time: background music under a voice, a jingle under an announcement, or ambience under a story. Echoly opens your main recording first, then lets you add a second file on top and choose exactly how loud it should be.

Set the right level

Background music usually sounds right between −12 and −18 dB, quiet enough for every word to be heard. You hear the result as soon as you mix, and Ctrl+Z (Undo) takes it back if you want to try another level.

Music that is shorter or longer

If the music is shorter than your recording, Echoly can repeat it to fill the whole length, or play it once. Fade in and fade out (up to 8 seconds) let the music start and end gently.

Lower the music while someone speaks

Choose "Lower it while you speak" and the music dips automatically under the voice and comes back up in the pauses, the way radio presenters do it.

Mix into one part only

Select a part of your recording first, and the music is mixed only there, for example just under the introduction.

Popular uses

  • Add background music to a voice-over
  • Put soft music under a story or katha
  • Mix an intro jingle into a podcast
  • Combine ambience like rain with narration

Questions about the audio mixer

Which file is mixed into which?

Open your main recording first. The second file you choose is played on top of it, and the length of the main recording stays the same.

Can I drag a second file onto the editor?

Yes. When a file is already open, dropping another file asks whether to mix it, add it at the end, insert it, or open it instead.

The mix is too loud. What now?

Press Ctrl+Z and mix again at a lower level, or use Effects → Normalize to bring the result back to a safe level.

Can I mix more than two files?

Yes. Mix the second file, then add a third the same way.
