Faster or slower, with a natural voice

Changing speed is useful for learning a song slowly, listening to a long lecture faster, or fitting narration to a video. Echoly offers two kinds of speed change, and you can switch between them while listening.

Keep the voice natural

This mode changes the speed but keeps the pitch, so a speaker sounds like the same person talking faster or slower. Between 0.75× and 1.5× the result stays clean; at the extremes (0.5× or 2×) you may hear a slight warble.

Like a tape

This mode changes speed and pitch together, the way an old cassette or record does. Faster sounds higher and slower sounds deeper, which is a popular effect for remixes.

Change the speed of one part

Select a part first and only that part changes speed, for example to slow down a hard line of a song while learning it.

Popular uses

  • Slow a song down to learn its tune
  • Listen to a long lecture at 1.25×
  • Make narration fit the length of a video
  • Create a slowed or sped-up remix

Not if you choose "Keep the voice natural". Only the tape mode changes the pitch.

Yes, with the Pitch changer (Effects → Pitch).

Does the file get shorter?

Yes. Faster audio is shorter and slower audio is longer; the new length shows above the waveform.
