Hide a word with a beep or silence
Sometimes a recording is perfect except for one word: a swear word, a person's name, a phone number or a brand you are not allowed to mention. Bleeping it out, as TV channels do, keeps the rest of the recording intact.
Select just the word
Zoom in until the word is wide on the screen, then drag across it. Play the selection to check you have the whole word and nothing more; click START or END to type an exact time if needed.
Beep or silence
Cover the word with a beep or with plain silence. You can set the beep's pitch and volume so it fits the recording instead of shocking the listener.
Many words?
Press M while listening to mark every word you need to hide, then jump between the markers with ] and bleep them one by one. Undo is always there if a bleep lands in the wrong place.

Questions about the bleep censor
Can I bleep on my phone?
Yes. Select the word with your finger, then use Effects → Bleep a word.
Can the bleep be removed later?
Not from the exported file, which is why the original is never changed. Keep your original file safe.
Is silence better than a beep?
Silence is less noticeable in speech; a beep makes it clear something was removed. Choose what suits your audience.
Which formats can I save?
MP3, WAV, FLAC or OGG.
