Make audio louder without distortion
A recording can be too quiet because the phone was far away, the speaker spoke softly, or the file was saved at a low level. Raising the volume too much makes it crackle. Echoly shows you the peak level and lets you hear the change live while you move the slider, so you can stop before it distorts.
Three ways to make it louder
Volume raises or lowers by a number of decibels (+6 dB doubles the signal level; about +10 dB sounds twice as loud). Normalize lifts the whole file until its loudest moment just reaches the limit, the safest one-click option. Ready for YouTube (−14 LUFS) evens out the loudness the way streaming sites expect, with a limiter that stops peaks from clipping.
Only one part is quiet?
Select just that part before opening Volume, and only the selection changes. This is useful when one speaker in an interview sat further from the microphone.
Too loud instead?
Use a negative value, such as −3 dB. If the status bar says "too loud, use Normalize", the file already clips and Normalize will bring it back to a safe level.

Questions about the volume booster
How much can I boost?
As much as the sound allows without clipping. Watch the meter and listen: if it starts to crackle, lower the slider a little or use Normalize instead.
What is LUFS?
A measure of how loud audio sounds to people. YouTube, Spotify and WhatsApp aim for about −14 LUFS, which "Ready for YouTube" sets for you.
Will boosting also make the noise louder?
Yes. Remove fan or hum noise first, then raise the volume.
Can I hear before applying?
Yes. The change plays live while you move the slider; nothing is changed until you press Apply.
