How to use the audio converter

  1. Open your fileMost audio formats and the sound of MP4/WebM videos open here.
  2. Pick a formatMP3 plays everywhere; FLAC keeps full quality in a smaller file; OGG is very small.
  3. SavePress Export.

OGG export needs a browser with an Opus encoder (recent Chrome and Edge).

Choosing the right audio format

Converting audio is mostly about one question: do you want the smallest file, or the best quality? Echoly opens almost any audio file and saves it as MP3, WAV, FLAC or OGG, and shows the expected file size before you save.

MP3: plays everywhere

MP3 works on every phone, car stereo and website. 128 kbps is fine for speech, 192 kbps for music, and 320 kbps if you want the best MP3 can do.

WAV and FLAC: no quality loss

WAV keeps the sound exactly but makes big files. FLAC keeps it exactly too, in a file about 40 % smaller, which is ideal for keeping a master copy of your recordings.

OGG (Opus): smallest for voice

OGG Opus gives very small files that still sound clear, especially for speech. It needs a recent Chrome or Edge to create, and plays in most modern apps.

Edit while you convert

Because the file opens in a full editor, you can trim, normalize or remove noise in the same step instead of converting twice.

Questions about the audio converter

Which formats can I open?

MP3, WAV, M4A, AAC, OGG, OPUS, FLAC and the sound of MP4, WebM and MOV videos.

Does converting MP3 to WAV improve quality?

No. It makes a bigger file with the same sound. Convert to WAV only when another program needs WAV.

Why is OGG greyed out?

Your browser cannot create Opus audio. Use Chrome or Edge on a computer or Android phone.

Are my files uploaded for conversion?

No. Conversion happens in your browser, so even private recordings stay on your device.
